[Solved] OO 4.ane.0 on Mac Bone X 10.vi.8

Issues installing under the Mac OSX - X11 - Aqua

[Solved] OO 4.1.0 on Mac Bone X 10.6.8

After receiving notification of the availability of Open Function 4.1.0, in which information technology was stated that the update was suitable for Mac OS 10 ten.three onwards, I downloaded the relevant file … noting that information technology stated:
"Download Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0
Click here to download (hosted by Sourceforge.net) for:
Mac Bone X (ten.6 or older) and English (British) | ~159 MByte | Released: 2014-Apr-29".

Even so when I attempted to run the instal, a message was displayed indicating that this could non keep every bit my version of Mac Os X was non suitable - I run OS Ten 10.6.viii.

OO 4.1 does _not_ work on Mac x.6.8. You need to return to 4.0.one; delight download information technology once more from this link:

(wait v seconds for the download to starting time subsequently yous click the link)

Do does this hateful that Snow Leopard is no longer supported? Is four.0.1 the end of the line?

Information technology seems rather odd that a Java application should be and so dependent on operating arrangement version.

In any case, if 4.0.1 is the end of the line, information technology would be nice if I didn't see messages telling me to upgrade.

Unless you have a rather quondam Mac, you lot can first upgrade to Mavericks (10.9); it's complimentary from Apple. Then you can install AOO releases beyond iv.one.0. If you lot can't/don't upgrade Os Ten, so you're probably stuck until you purchase new hardware. Check Mac resources on the spider web if you demand assistance determining if you can upgrade, or if y'all demand help installing Mavericks.

If this answered your question please go to your starting time post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the beginning of the title. You lot tin select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

From the release notes at

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/dis ... ease+Notes

"Annotation: Mac users should be aware that with this release Apache OpenOffice is a 64-bit application and requires Mac OSX 10.vii or above."

It seems rather odd that a Coffee awarding should exist so dependent on operating organization version.

Apache OpenOffice is not a Java awarding.

Both the release notes (run into above) and the system requirements,

, country that Mac Bone X 10.7 (Lion) or higher is required.

Although my hardware can run Panthera leo, Lion is a pig (compared to Snow Leopard) and even if information technology wasn't I *detest* the interface changes. Much of that was stock-still in Mountain Lion, but my hardware can't run that.

I've been planning to upgrade for a while now, merely honestly, with an SSD and maxed out RAM my MacBook Pro (2,1) is even so more than adequate. I am likewise one of the few people who seems to similar a 17" laptop any more, and I am not terribly interested in shelling out for a new auto until I absolutely have to if it means downgrading to a 15" screen.

I've got to say that I'm really sorry that just when Open Office starts to get truly usable I can't run the latest version whatsoever more.

I've got to say that I'm really sad that simply when Open up Part starts to get truly usable I tin can't run the latest version whatever more than.

And then just keep using the version of Rapidly OpenOffice that you have. It is much more recent than your computer and operating system. I am happy using an older version on my 2nd computer, a MacBook running Snow Leopard.

I utilise Snow Leopard because I *prefer* information technology, not because I like running old software. Snowfall Leopard is light and fast, faster than anything that came before it and faster than anything that has come up since. I really don't like what happened with the iOS-ification of Bone/X and I accept yet to find a unmarried feature in newer versions that makes me want to upgrade.

Open up Office, on the other hand, has seen substantial improvements in every release and Information technology has merely been rather recently that I've considered information technology truly usable (although I accept been using it since information technology was chosen Star Office...)

If this is really the end, *PLEASE* discover a way to stop the bloody annoying popular-ups that keep telling me to upgrade.

Information technology is already there in your preferences. Did you await? The choice has been there every bit long as I remember.
On the card bar click on 'OpenOffice'
Click on 'Preferences'
In the window that opens get to OpenOffice/Online Updates
Under "Online Update Options" uncheck "Check for updates automatically"

I wonder nearly this.
I have OS 10.6.viii on my MacBook Pro from 2009 and I e'er thought this is a 64 Flake machine, I nonetheless think information technology.
So I don't understand why OO four.ane doesn't run on it, both 64 Bit.
Why?

Because AOO 4.ane requires OS X ver.10.7 or newer. It won't run on older versions of OS X.

AOO 4.1 requires Bone X ver.10.7 or newer. The operating organization requirement is independent from information technology being a 64 bit app. Many electric current applications for Macs require OS X ver.seven or newer.

No, I didn't sympathize your answer considering I read in the General Remarks of the AOO four.1 Release notes this sentence:

Note: Mac users should be aware that with this release Apache OpenOffice is a 64-flake application and requires Mac OSX x.7 or above.

I read this like this: As it is a 64-bit application information technology requires Mac OS 10.7. This is the thing I don't understand. OS x.half-dozen is 64-bit as well, I don't empathise the logic in this remark.

The underlying routines in the before operating organization don't accommodate the current version of OpenOffice. If you have knowledge of Mac OSes, the OpenOffice software source code is available and you might patch it to adapt your operating system. I'k sure there will be OpenOffice developer help bachelor should you lot make up one's mind to do this.

one. Apache OpenOffice is a 64-bit application.
2. Apache OpenOffice requires Mac OSX ten.vii or in a higher place.
